Tenzin Chukit, born 2011
Tenzin lived with her grandmother as het parents are divorced. She has one younger sister and she is now the youngest at the Gephel Shadrubling Nunnery. She arrived at the end of 2015 in the Nunnery and has been shaved, so the entrance ritual took already place.
Sonam Dolma, born 2009
Her parents are very poor. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a housewife. She has two older sisters two older brothers. She is the youngest child in this family. Her two older sisters are uneducated and her two brothers went also to a monastry. Sonam is very happy that she was allowed to go to the Gephel nunnery and plays happely with the other children. She seems to be good in mathematics and she wants to become a teacher. Her smile is touching and it is said that she almost always smiles.
Thupten Wangmo, born 1993?
Thupten Wangmo is from Temisgam. Her father is a policeman and her mother is a housewife. She has only two sisters and she is the youngest child in her family. She became a nun at the age of 12. It was her personal choice. Her aim is to study more and a Dharma teacher and also dedicate her life in the service of poor and old people. Currently she is doing her 10th standard class at Dehradun.
Tsering Dolma, born 1985
Studies to become a Geshe in Kopan, Nepal at the Khachoe Ghakyil nunnery She almost finished her studies and will be one of the first female Geshe in Tibetan history Then she will return to become a teacher at the new Universty in Basgo of the Gephel Shadrupling Institute that is being built there.

Dolma Tsering, born 2007
Dolma Tsering the youngest of all. She was born in Tongde, Zangskar. She is friends with Kunsel Lhamo. She has two older sisters and one younger and one older brother. Her father brings food to the army and provides the army with all kinds of materials. Her mother is housewife. She loves school and likes to learn English. She wants to become a teacher.
Kunsel Lhamo, born 2006
Kunsel Lhamo was born in Tongde in Zangskar. She has one younger sister. Her father is separated form her mother and her grandparents took care of her. Both her father and mother remarried. Her grandfather is now paralyzed. She wanted to become a nun, she asked for it herself. In school she likes the most to learn Hindi. She wants to become a teacher and later wants to look after older nuns.
Semkit Dolma, born 2003
Semkit Dolma is born in Zangskar, Zang-la. She has one older brother, one younger brother and sister. Her father is carpenter, her mother a housewife. In school she likes to learn English and wants to go and meet Obama. She wanted to become a nun, her parents asked her and she said yes. She wants to help all living beings. She wants to be a meditator. She squints, we have discussed the option of an operation with Namdol.
Tsewang Norzom, born 2002
Tsewang Norzom was born in Zangskar in Staravillage. Tsewang has 6 sisters: 4 older, 2 younger sisters. Her father is a supervisor of workers in building. Tsewang likes story books. Her mother is a housewife. She decided herself to become a nun, asked her parents and went first to the LNA for one week, but was not given permission to stay because she was too young. She went back to Zangskar, then her father called to Saboo, and she came here with the Gephel nuns.

Tenzin Tchunzin was born in Kumik in Zangskar. She has two elder and two younger sisters. One younger sister is also nun in Karsha. Tenzin likes to study Tibetan and Dharma in school. Her father and mother are farmers. She likes to argue with others. She became a nun because she wanted to become a nun herself, she asked that for a long time, and finally her parents consented. She likes nuns behavior, and she doesn’t want to have any hair.
Lobzang Angmo, born 2000
Lobsang Angmo was born in Zangla village in Zangskar and has two older sisters and one younger brother. Her father is a builder. Her mother is a housewife. She likes the most: memorizing the Dharma teachings. She says never to be naughty, never looks T.V. Lobsang is a bit shy. She wanted herself to become a nun, because she wants to practice Dharma and does not want to get married and have a husband. The best way then is to become a nun.
Tashi Chonzom, born in 2004
Tashi Chonzom was born in Kumi in Zangskar. She has an older sister and three younger sisters. Her father is in the army and her mother is a housewife. At school she most enjoys drawing and writing. She wanted to become a nun because she wanted to have a clean shaven head. She asked her parents if she could become a nun but they initially refused. It was only after a lot of tears that her parents finally gave consent. She wants to become a teacher.
Stanzin Chunit, born in 2003
Stanzin Chunit was born in Kumik in Zangskar. She has two older sisters and an older brother. Her father is a school bus driver and her mother is a housewife. She likes to study Hindi at school and to learn the Dharma by heart. She laughs a lot and likes to tease others. She wanted to become a nun herself because she wanted to practice the Dharma. Now she would like to become Geshe-ma and lead the singing.
Tenzin Lhadol, born in 2002
Tenzin Lhadol was born in Kumik in Zangskar. She was already friends with the other girls from Kumik. She has an older sister and three younger brothers. Her father works in the army and her mother is a housewife. She loves to study, especially the Tibetan language. She wanted to become a nun just like some other girls from her village. Her wish is to become an expert yoga teacher as she is already very good at yoga.
Gurmat Chosdon, born in 2002
Gurmat (Jigmet) Chosdon is born in Pidmo, Zangskar. She has two older and one younger brother and two sisters. Her father has a restaurant, he cooks momo’s, thukpa and skew. Her mother is housewife. In school she likes to learn Tibetan and English. In her family there was no nun or monk, she wants to be the first one and teach the family about Dharma. Her parents consented. She wants to sing and dance when she is happy. She would like to be a meditation teacher.
Thupten Chodon , born in 2001
Thupten Chodon came recently to his nunnery. She is also from Zangskar and wants to be a teacher.
Rigzen Angmo, born in 2000
Rigzen Angmo is from Obarak in Zangskar and has one elder brother and two older sisters. Her father works in the army. She likes to learn Dharma scripture and wants to become a Geshe-ma. She has a good voice, and is chanting leader. According to Namdol, Rigzen is very wise in every subject and one of the best students of the school. She helped good when the new sunpanels came for their new nunnery in the summer of 2014.
Chosdon, born in 1982
Studies to become a Geshe in Dharamsala. Chosdon specializes in English and computer science. She attends training, also during holidays. She has to pay for her stay in the nunnery in Dharamsala. After getting her degree she will return to Ladakh to become a teacher in her nunnery at the new University the nuns have build in Basgo. She decided to become a nun at 18.
Kunzang, born in 1986
Kunzang studies to become a Geshe in Kopan, Nepal at the Khachoe Ghakyil nunnery. She almost finished her studies and will be one of the first female Geshes in Tibetan history. Then she will return to become a teacher at the new University in Basgo of the Gephel Shadrupling Institute that has been build there.
Stanzin Namdol, born in 1977
Stanzin Namdol has one brother and one sister. Stanzin Namdol studied at the Khachoe Ghakyil Institute, but went back to Ladakh to help her colleague, Thupten Dechen, to organize the new nunnery in Sabu, and to establish the School for Higher Learning in Basgo. Now she went to Dharamsala to finish her studies in the Geden Choeling Nunnery. When she was 13 she wanted to become a nun and she was ordained at 18. Her father is a farmer. She wants to learn more about meditation and to concentrate on Vipassana and Shamata.
Tenzin Dechen, born in 1980
Tenzin Dechen studies to become a Geshe at the Karnataka Buddhist University in South India. Her English is pretty good. After finishing her studies she will be coming back to Ladakh to teach her fellow-sisters at her nunnery in Saboo. This nunnery built a University for nuns in Ladakh so the nuns don’t have to go to other parts of the country or Nepal to study. She decided to become a nun when she was seventeen. Her goal is to be a guide to others nuns in the future.
Tenzin Saldon, born in 1978
Tenzin Saldon has two elder and two younger sisters. She comes from Basgo village. Her father died in 2009 when she was studying in Nepal. Her younger sister is also a nun. She stopped studying in Kopan because she is now on the Board of the new nunnery, which built a University for nuns in Ladakh in Basgo. She studied Lam Rim and philosophy (path to enlightenment). Their own Geshe teaches them. She still wants to become a Geshe-ma. She likes to study Dharma and philosophy. She also teaches the young nuns in the nunnery. In 2010 she attended a course in Leh to learn how to make Sand mandalas.
Skalzang, born in 1996
Skalzang studies to become a Geshe at the Khachoe Ghakyil Nunnery in Kopan, Nepal. After she finishes she will come back to Ladakh to teach at the new high school in Basgo.
